Monday morning. Friends left for their duties, I spent an unhurried morning alone in their house, coding Ancient Savo. Then I left walking to the Joensuu railway station, some 8 km. There was this nice peaceful route. A wooden bridge over a frozen brook, ski tracks next to the walkway. The train journey was funny; for the first two hours I was kept company by an older man who kept on talking constantly, telling funny stories of his life. At Pieksämäki I changed trains, and found some peace to continue coding on my laptop. I had left my car at Orivesi railway station (some 50 km away from my home). Our train was running 10 minutes behind the schedule, and the train driver was so keen to catch up that he forgot to stop at Orivesi. Well, for compensation the train personnel offered be coffee and a sandwich at the restaurant car. At Tampere I changed trains again, taking the next train back to the direction where I already came from. This time the train stopped at Orivesi, I switched from a train to my car, and drove back home.

I think you could probably send a written complaint via VR's web page and get a partial refund for your ticket, at least if you arrived at least X minutes late (where X is a number they get to decide :).
Probably, yes. But then, I arrived at Orivesi about an hour late, bit more. And I was the only passenger who was leaving at Orivesi - so personally I felt that is was kind of okay to save a few minutes by not stopping at Orivesi. For the time our train arrived at Tampere affected a number of other trains waiting for passengers from our train, so I think that the comfort of the numerous passengers was more pressing than my personal timetables, in this particular case. I had my car waiting at Orivesi station, I had made no prior arrangements, so in my life it didn't make a big difference if I finally arrived at Orivesi a bit late. So why complain, doesn't feel worth investing my time into filling forms etc. The train personnel were nice and kind, and offered me coffee and a sandwich (I asked for a cup of coffee, they offered double the compensation I was asking for).
I guess that's a pretty reasonable way to think about it too :)
