One of the "summer neighbours" gave me a copy of this classic book. I read the Finnish translation in my teenage years, and needless to say; in addition to being an inspiration for my own blog, I think it might also have encouraged some of the life choices I've made. (Certainly, the desire to live a simple life connected to nature has been there since early childhood, but reading the book might have solidified some of the themes). Today I just randomly opened the book, and it was the pages with detailed tables on bean sown and harvested, money needed, and practical tips on bean cultivation. Funnily enough, this is something I was planning to do when I started writing the blog. The problem is that one summer I should keep detailed notes, measuring and writing down everything to get exact numbers - and often I just tend to enjoy the moment, and especially with gardening my methods are pretty vague so not that much measurements involved... And I greatly enjoy the feeling of having surplus harvest which I can share with my friends. Oh well, but all in all - let's see how it will affect the blog once I get to properly re-read the book.
