Experimenting with a DIY steam thawer. Of course I could simply call a contractor if the frozen culverts need to be thawed. But today I was hit with a DIY mood, and I wanted to try if I can utilize old unused pieces of equipment to put together a simple device to generate steam. This is made from an old pressure container, with the internals removed. I poured in a few liters of water and placed the container on a fire. After a while it started to emit steam from the hose. Good! To use this to thaw ice I'd need longer pieces attached to the hose. And the exact same device could be used to direct steam into a steaming box - that would be useful for bending timber, for example if making a drum frame, or the curved tip of a ski.
