Hehe, as usual, after watching pure entertainment in no-brain mode, it sparks some philosophical observations in my mind. I took a look at few reviews and plot summaries, and many of them referred to Wayne and Garth as 'underachievers'. Which was also a theme in the film itself - the assumption that one should use ones talent and life to achieve something great, to make it bit, and earning a lot of money. Huh?

I mean, to me it felt like Wayne and Garth have everything, when they drive their AMC Pacer lipsyncing to Bohemian Rhapsody. A nice bunch of friends, doing silly and funny things together, enjoying life and providing entertainment for the local audience. What more would one need to achieve in ones life? As the film goes on, it becomes evident that with big business there lurks the danger of losing the original spirit, the honest fun of goofing around your own way. Hehe, if you ask me, the main achievement of life would be to maintain that good connection and funny spirits with friends and family, or any other significant people around you. Seen from this perspective, it is Benjamin who looks more like an underachiever - he has the money, he has the connections, he has the looks, yet he seems to fail to establish trust-based honest and sustainable relations with other people.

Oh well, all of this is probably self-evident for most of the folks who saw these films when they were fresh. I only watched them now for the first time, and I missed some of the jokes as they were so deeply rooted in references to early 1990's pop culture - and there are a lot more of films of that era I haven't seen =)
